Learning To Draw: 8 Tips The Expert Use
March 17, 2008 11:46 pm Arts and Crafts, DrawingThink you can’t draw?
Lots of people think that way, but nothing could be further from the truth.
While it is certainly true that some people are more artistically gifted than others, the fact is that everyone can learn to draw.
We are all born with some level of artistic skill
The trick is to develop what you have to the best level possible. All it takes is practice….practice…..and more practice.
Like any other skill, drawing can be learned by practicing and gradually improving until the skill is
mastered.
Here are some useful tips to help you in your quest to improve your drawing
skills.
Try some of these, they are sure to help!
- Keep a sketchbook and jot down ideas as you see or think of them. Always keep all your drawings.
- Get inspiration from other artist’s work. Visit art galleries or art.com on the internet.
- Warm up before you begin drawing. Loosen up by drawing fast shapes and circles from
your shoulder, with your elbow up. - Draw what you see, not a preconceived idea of the drawing from your memory. Drawing upside is a good way to achieve this.
- Avoid looking at your drawing too often, as this can cause you to be over-critical
and continually judging your work. - Try the “negative drawing” technique. Focus on the “white
space” of your drawing, and draw the white shapes instead of the black outline
of the subject. - Look at your drawing backwards in the mirror can often highlight structural drawing errors
much more clearly. - Create movement and depth in your drawings using thin lines for objects far away and
thicker lines for objects in the foreground. Create movement by drawing things such as hair blowing, trees moving, dust and gravel spraying, etc.
Don’t forget, learning to draw is not something only people born with artistic talent can do.
Everyone has some level of artistic skill which can be developed by practicing and
gradually improving.
By implementing some of the drawing tips mentioned here, you may soon find yourself drawing like a seasoned artist in no time at all!
